, the elementary shooting in newtown, connecticut we have been reporting a few days before that in the oregon shopping mall shooting. also recall over the summer the aurora movie theater massacre that gun involved. one of the weapons the beltway snipers used in washington, d.c. in 2002. david lee miller has been tracking today's developments. he joins us live from our new york newsroom. david lee, police say now they searched the house. they haven't been able to get in there for a while and they found somebody's remains. who is it? >> that's right. it now seems almost certain jamie that spangler is responsible for the death of his 67-year-old sister with whom he had a relationship. shortly after the rampage authorities say she couldn't be located and this afternoon authorities said they made a grizzly discovery. >> we did locate apparent human remains in the ruins of the house of 191 lake road. the medical examiner has removed those remains. again, 191 lake road is where the shooter resided with his sister. medical examiner will be working on the identification. i'm assuming that's going to t

and the impact of the tragedy in newtown. on the radar this morning, chilling details in the christmas eve firefighter ambush. we could find out soon who will be saying aloha to the senate and a broken record in the house of representatives. new details out of webster, new york. william spangler set a car and house on fire and ambushed firefighters, opening fire on them as they arrive on the scene. police found a note he left behind saying he wanted to burn down the neighborhood and do what i like doing best, killing people. a convicted felon who spent 17 years in prison for killing his grandmother with a hammer was armed with three firearms including a bushmaster, the same gun used in the school massacre. he may have killed his sister and the home had human remains believed to be hers. >> police say spangler took his own life. governor neal abercrombie, democrats are urging a swift deployment so the replacement can on a deficit deal. of abercrombie's options, congresswoman colleen anabusha and senator inouye's dying wish is for her to take his place in the senate. it's hard to compete wit

rocketed upward in the wake of newtown, tennessee said gun purchases are an all time high and wal-mart sold out of sem automatics in five states. a leading bullet manufacturer said they sold three in three days and that benefits the nra because in many stores, they get $1 from the sale of every gun and every package of ammunition. a counter weight to the nra, there is a lot of money in gun rights legislation and working that side of the aisle. no money to be made in gun control. we have the total fight. >> you are right. what can we do about that? you lay out why it's a really uphill battle. maybe it is that citizens united will create the ability for billionaires and high network people or membership groups that top the fight for common sense measures to pour the kind of money into the political process to make a difference. if there is a way to combine the fiscal cliff and a way to arm those who will be full verable to losing the payroll tax in 30 days and have their gun bought back. wey category combine every possible proposal in one. ask that is an incredible idea. i am here in washingt
